Café Sperry’s
7745 US Highway 70 S, Nashville, TN 37221
Nashville is full of surprises, and I recently stumbled across a delightful one: Café Sperry’s. While Sperry’s is well-known for its beloved restaurants across Nashville, I had no idea they also operated a café. Imagine my excitement when I saw their big sign right off Highway 70 promoting coffee, pastries, and more! Of course, I knew my mom and I would have to come back and give it a try.
To my surprise, Café Sperry’s wasn’t just a café, it was also a mercantile. The mercantile side featured local, high-quality meats and fresh seafood, making it both a gourmet grocery store and a butcher shop. They even had a selection of homemade meals, sides, and snacks from local vendors. It felt like stepping into a Southern specialty store with a nostalgic and patriotic charm.
The café side, however, was the real highlight. It offered far more than I had expected. The indoor seating area was expansive and incredibly cozy, with a traditional, homey décor that made it feel like you were visiting a family member’s house. From old-fashioned coffee machines on display to the super clean environment, everything about the space radiated warmth and comfort.
As soon as we walked in, I was eager to explore the menu and the offerings but did not know what I was hungry for. Their drink menu was fairly standard but included a few blended specialty options that caught my eye. After some deep thought, I decided on a white mocha iced latte with almond milk, while my mom went for her classic cappuccino. Their pastry case was full of tempting treats, from croissants to quiches, and they also offered a variety of refrigerated premade meals and snacks for those ordering to go, or maybe even on their lunch break. The decision-making process wasn’t easy, but we eventually settled on a chocolate croissant, a spinach and egg pastry, and a tomato basil quiche, all of which looked tempting, and we did not want to miss out. The staff was incredibly friendly and even chatted with us while preparing our drinks, making the experience feel personal and welcoming.
While waiting for our food to be heated up, we explored the café a bit more. We absolutely loved the Southern, old-fashioned vibe. One of my favorite parts was a separate seating area off the main dining room, featuring cozy couches, a fireplace, and shelves lined with books, to keep you busy while you sip on a yummy coffee drink. I immediately envisioned myself coming back during the winter to do schoolwork by the fire with a warm drink in hand. Unlike many other Nashville coffee spots, this place had endless seats, and was relaxing, making it a perfect place for doing work. They also had a lovely outdoor seating area, perfect for enjoying a sunny day.
On top of all that, Café Sperry’s offered a variety of merchandise, including bags of the local coffee they used, jars of local honey, and traditional coffee machines and accessories. For coffee enthusiasts like me, it was a dream come true — the perfect way to recreate the café experience at home.
Our food was ready within minutes, and we decided to take everything home to enjoy. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! The drinks were flavorful and perfectly made. My white mocha iced latte was just the right amount of sweetness without being overpowering, and I would absolutely order it again. My mom raved about her cappuccino, saying it was smooth and rich, earning both drinks a solid 9/10.
Now, onto the food, the real star of the show. We started with the chocolate croissant, which was warm, flaky, and buttery. It paired beautifully with our coffees and felt like an indulgent treat. Next up was the tomato basil quiche, which quickly became my personal favorite. It was perfectly baked with a rich, flavorful filling, and the hint of basil added a unique and delightful twist. Finally, my mom’s favorite was the spinach and egg pastry. The filling was creamy and well-seasoned, and the buttery pastry crust was simply divine. Every single bite was delicious, and we rated all the food items a 9/10 as well.
Café Sperry’s exceeded every expectation. From the warm and inviting atmosphere to the impeccable food and drinks, it’s a true hidden gem in Nashville. Whether you’re looking for a cozy spot to enjoy coffee, a quick grab-and-go meal from the mercantile, or a quiet place to relax by the fireplace, this café has something special to offer. We will definitely be returning, and I can’t wait to explore more of their menu and enjoy their unique space again. Have you been to Café Sperry’s?
